You know it and scientific studies have established that increased activities or exercise are beneficial to almost all aspects of health. It is even more important to exercise as one gets older! Many chronic diseases such as ischemic heart disease, arthritis and osteoporosis develop as the body ages. The benefits of suitable exercise to improve, or in some cases prevent, these diseases are well established.

Exercise keeps you fit and healthy! For those with arthritis, exercise helps keep the joints and muscles strong, the bones and joint tissues healthy and boosts energy levels to keep up with daily activities. Remember, you are as young as you feel!

There are 3 types of exercises that are especially important to older adults. Tai Chi contains all 3 types. It is also a program with set sequences, making exercise simply a matter of following the sequences.

While Tai Chi is suitable for almost anyone to learn, it is also progressive. This means that it doesn't matter at what age a person starts to learn it, their skill and knowledge can continually be improved.

It also means that aging does not lower the level of skill, progress will be made as long as Tai Chi is practiced regularly!

Flexibility

These exercises help keep the joints flexible; they usually involve moving joints gently through their range of motion.

Strengthening

These exercises help keep, maintain or increase muscle strength. Strong muscles help keep the joints stable.

Fitness

Fitness exercise helps strengthen the heart and lungs and increases stamina. It also helps to keep joints flexible and muscle strong.
